Wolfgang Tillmans’s artistic practice attributes central importance to the observation of people, their relationship to one another, and their connection to the things around them. These subjective relations and modes of perceiving bodies, images, materials, or surfaces are undergoing massive shifts in light of the current health crisis, calls for social distancing, and the relocation of our everyday life and interaction into virtual space.

The collection, analysis, and circulation of ecological data, often invisible to the human eye, is at the core of Jesse Stecklow’s artistic practice. The Los Angeles-based artist (b. 1993) works with a precisely defined repertoire of objects that oscillate between image, text and sound.

The Vordemberge-Gildewart Foundation awards an annual grant to support an independent visual artist or art writer aged 35 or under living in Europe. The nominees for this year's award will present their works at mumok.

The exhibition investigates how artistic models of a “we” can be cultivated for life together as a society: What does collaboration mean in the twenty-first century when fundamental social structures continue to dissolve? How have artists responded to such social and political developments over the decades and what is their position today?

Geumhyung Jeong’s "Spa & Beauty" investigates the relationship of body-objects, taking inspiration from the industry of beauty and body care products

At once tender and unsettling, the films, sculptures, installations, and performances of Geumhyung Jeong, one of the most exciting artists of her generation and currently to be seen at Venice Biennale, are often studies in animism of some sort. In 2022, ImPulsTanz presents a comprehensive show of the visual artist, performer and dancer.

Common things, once they meet with the artist’s body, come to life, become a partner in the game of pulling and pushing, and cause anxiety by their mysterious presence. The result is a moving choreography of the body and mind, crossing the division into animate and inanimate, human and inhuman, hallucination and reality.

Water burbles, patterns and images flit through this somnambulistic installation, in which a soloist dances – a shadow diva in a shiny sequin dress. Grace Ellen Barkey, who was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, and co­founded the Belgian Needcompany together with Jan Lauwers, has decolonised her name for this new work. In MALAM / NIGHT she plays the dhalang, the puppeteer, in the ancient wayang pup­ pet­shadow play from Java, enchanting the audience with dreamlike poetry. Tjang’s nocturnal observations of the plants in her garden served as inspiration.
