mumok is one of the largest and most prominent museums in Europe dedicated to collecting, researching, and presenting modern and contemporary art to a broad audience of art enthusiasts through its exhibitions.

Located in the heart of Europe, it serves as a bridge between East and West and, as an internationally oriented museum, connects local and global art scenes.

At mumok, art history and the present are presented as living, socially engaged processes. In addition to famous stars such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Maria Lassnig, and Cosima von Bonin, the museum’s collection and special exhibitions also highlight previously undiscovered and younger artists, as well as new art forms, in recognition of their significance. In this way, past and present, tradition and experimentation come together.

The striking dark-gray basalt block of the building, situated in the heart of Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, houses an extraordinary collection ranging from major works of Classical Modernism, Pop Art, Fluxus, Conceptual Art, and Viennese Actionism to contemporary art with its film and media references.

The mumok cinema hosts film screenings, lectures and discussions that shed light on the illuminating interrelationships between film and the visual arts.

The wide-ranging educational program for all visitors aged four and up, the library, the mumok cinema, the café, and the shop round out the extensive offerings.
