The MuseumsQuartier Wien stands for openness, diversity, and participation. The entire area is barrier-free and creates the conditions for a self-determined visit for people with different needs.
The most important points at a glance
The Museumsquartier offers accessible entrances, discounted admission, accessible restrooms, an accessible reception area, as well as inclusive tours and programs. Wheelchairs are also available for rent, and service dogs are permitted.
Arrival

The Vienna Museumsquartier is located in the 7th district. The main entrance is behind Museumsplatz; it is clearly visible and easy to find. It leads directly into the main courtyard. All entrances to the complex are wheelchair accessible. They can be reached without steps, or there are elevators available. You can get there by public transportation or by car.

POPTIS Navigation
SystemPOPTIS is a digital wayfinding system for all subway stations. It helps blind and visually impaired passengers navigate to the MuseumsQuartier Wien without barriers. It can
be accessed at www.wl-barrierefrei.at or www.poptis.at.
Traveling by car
Four disabled parking spaces are available on the MuseumsQuartier grounds. Access to the MuseumsQuartier is via the main entrance at the Volkstheater (corner of Burggasse/Museumsplatz in the direction of Getreidemarkt).
Your Visit
The Museumsquartier is open 24 hours a day. The opening hours of the individual institutions vary. You can find out more about the institutions' opening hours here.
The site is open to all visitors. All staircases and steps on the grounds are marked with high-visibility colors, and handrails are installed in areas with slopes.
Accessible restrooms and baby-changing stations are located in the main entrance of the MQ. In addition, each institution has its own accessible restrooms.
Concessions for people with disabilities
Visitors with disabilities are entitled to a reduced admission price upon presentation of a valid disability card at the respective museums and institutions within the MuseumsQuartier. You can find out more about admission prices here.
A thirst for art and culture
People facing financial difficulties can gain free entry to selected museums and institutions in the MuseumsQuartier with the Kulturpass.
Wheelchair Rental
Two wheelchairs are available for free rental at the MQ Point in the main entrance of the MuseumsQuartier. They are issued upon presentation of a valid ID.
Institutions
All institutions are accessible to people with disabilities. Detailed information on accessibility, services, and offerings can be found on the respective websites of the museums and institutions.
Elevators
All elevators in the MuseumsQuartier Wien are designed to be accessible and comply with ÖNORM EN 81-70. They allow people with varying mobility, vision, and hearing needs to use them safely and independently.
The elevators are equipped with:
- Spacious cabins designed to accommodate wheelchairs comfortably
- Wide door openings of at least 90 cm for easy entry and exit
- Controls at an easily accessible height (approx. 85–110 cm), usable while sitting or standing
- Raised buttons with Braille for tactile orientation
- Audio and visual floor announcements for better wayfinding
- High-contrast controls and displays for excellent visibility
- Sturdy handrails in the cabin for additional support
This ensures that all visitors can move around the MuseumsQuartier as independently, safely, and comfortably as possible.
Information and content
The information and content are presented in plain language so that they are easy to understand, even for people with intellectual disabilities or learning difficulties. In the forecourt, there is a tactile model of the MQ featuring raised building outlines and Braille signage to assist blind and visually impaired people.
Inclusive arts and culture education
Upon request, we offer guided tours of the MuseumsQuartier in Austrian Sign Language. The tours provide barrier-free access to the architecture, history, and current topics of the MQ and are individually tailored. Please contact us for further information.

Are assistance dogs permitted in the MuseumsQuartier?
Yes. Assistance dogs are permitted throughout the entire MuseumsQuartier area. However, different rules may apply within individual museums and institutions. Please check directly with the respective institution for more information.
Are there any temporary restrictions on accessibility?
Construction work, events, or weather conditions may cause temporary restrictions. You can find the latest information on our website or on site at the relevant offices.
Are there seating options for people with limited mobility?
Yes. There are numerous indoor and outdoor seating areas throughout the grounds, including the famous Enzis in the courtyards.
Are the paths in the MuseumsQuartier accessible?
The main paths in the MuseumsQuartier are flat and largely barrier-free. Minor differences in level or temporary restrictions may occur depending on the area.
