In her new piece, Ulduz Ahmadzadeh continues her long-term research on the movement material of West Asian cultural heritage and lets the spirits carry her on the wind from the Persian Gulf to the African continent. "ZĀĀR" is an examination of the cosmology of transcontinental Zaar rituals and a search for traces of kinship in dance.

In her piece for the TQW dance group PARASOL, choreographer Ulduz Ahmadzadeh continues her long-term exploration of pre-national dance heritage from South-West Asia, delving into the cosmology of the transcontinental healing ritual Zaar (or Zaar Cult). In this session, the team invites the audience to a collective reading and discussion around these themes.

The new project by Alexandra Bachzetsis is a profound and lustful exploration by the performer of her biography as a dancer, choreographer and artist.

Border regimes and processes of marginalisation counteract forms of convivial coexistence in different ways in neoliberal nation states, at present as well as in the past. What can be done about this? Which strategies can be used to boost conviviality in this context? And what does it take to make living convivially possible within different societies in the first place?

In "Cloth Ball Square", Oleg Soulimenko delves deeper into his fascination with materiality and form, exploring possible encounters between bodies and objects and the affective potential of abstraction. Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s thinking about geometrical lines and figures as vehicles that transport specific affects, Soulimenko makes cloth, ball, and square the protagonists of his performance.

In a setting inspired by the conviviality of Passover, Tress_passing explores performance and artistic research as practices through which critical, intersectional, pluralist perspectives on and experiences of Jewishness can be elaborated.

Following Mariella Greil’s Morning Practice and in anticipation of the workshop "Verwerfungen & Faltungen: eine choreo-ethische Assemblage", TQW hosts the book presentation "Bare Bodies – Thresholding Life" (Angewandte, DeGruyter, Berlin 2024). This anthology is dedicated to bodies in transition, on thresholds, and at the edges of life, discussed in terms of their artistic, political and existential dimensions.

TQW DOC+ is a monthly interdisciplinary, inter-university forum for theorists on topics concerned with choreography, performance, body, art and politics at Tanzquartier Wien.

"Exótica" sees itself as an homage to all those forgotten performers of colour who did not find a place in the canon of dance history and are only now slowly being rediscovered.

Based on various texts by Mark Fisher, Lynne Segal, Franco Berardi and Ann Cvetkovich, among others, which we will read and discuss together, as well as through somatic exercises and writing sessions, "negative" emotions should not be understood in this workshop as an individual, self-inflicted deficit but as a collective expression of objection and protest.
