Every year the excitement over the country's “white strips of snow” ramps up in the media. Last year a satirical broadcast on the "Lake Neusiedl Desert" caused a wave of cancellations there. Tourism and climate change are two controversial topics everybody is talking about.

Climate change is a reality, and tourism is more dependent on the climate than other sectors of the economy. And yet the discussion is largely limited to CO2 neutrality for hotels, climate-neutral lifts, environmental certification or the improvement of public transport. The buzzphrase in strategies for tourism is ‘sustainable growth’. But can growth ever be sustainable in a world where we are already reaching our limits? We want to discuss with our guests the interactions between climate change and tourism and whether we have already started preparing for the serious changes ahead.

With:
Peter Brandauer, President of Alpine Pearls
Liliana Dagostin, head of the department for spatial planning and nature conservation, Alpenverein, vice-chairperson, CIPRA Österreich
Ulrike Pröbstl-Haider, professor at the Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning (ILEN), BOKU Vienna
Günther Lichtblau, climate expert at the Environment Agency Austria
