12.04. – 27.10.2024
MQ Main Courtyard

The sculpture for public space by Ukrainian artist Pavlo Makov will be installed centrally in the MQ main courtyard. The origin of the artwork is Kharkiv in the 1990s, a time when the city was often plagued by water shortages and political and social exhaustion had spread throughout Ukraine. The Fountain of Exhaustion was the Ukrainian contribution to the 59th Venice Biennale 2022. The work has already attracted great international attention in Venice after it was brought to Italy from the war zone under the most difficult conditions in spring 2022. The sculpture became a symbol of the resilience of Ukraine and its artists in times of war, but also speaks to us against the backdrop of the depletion of natural resources and our relationship with nature.
