With the 90-minute format "Resonanz", we establish contacts in our new neighbourhood in the MuseumsQuartier: art educators, musicians and dramaturges from the MusikTheater an der Wien, the mumok and the Kunsthalle Wien explore echoes, reverberations or contrasts in the current exhibitions and programmes.

What does nature mean when it is brought to the operatic stage using artistic techniques? A forester catches a little fox in the woods and drags it home with him. While following her animal instincts, the vixen behaves in a surprisingly human way: she gossips, steals and kills, fights for her freedom, seizes the moment to win her great love and shows the humans around her what it means to be alive. "The Cunning Little Vixen", first performed in 1924 and based on a novella by Rudolf Tešnohlídek, is an unconventional portrayal of humans and animals in which Leoš Janáček breaks new ground.

The MusikTheater an der Wien throws open the doors of the MuseumsQuartier: short concerts, workshops, and musical pop-ups provide a fascinating glimpse into the world of music, of theater, and of musical theater. We unite curious visitors of all ages with passionate opera-lovers—leaving everyone wanting more.

"La lotta d’Ercole con Acheloo", composed in 1689 for the newly opened court theater of the Elector of Hanover, describes the fight between Alcides (Heracles) and the river god Achelous for the love of the beautiful Deianira.

Museumsquartier instead of Naschmarkt, Halle E instead of Theater an der Wien... The 22/23 season brings with it not only the new artistic director Stefan Herheim, but also a new venue. We would like to continue to give all theater enthusiasts the opportunity to look behind the scenes and at the same time get to know our new venue.

The Igudesman & Joo duo is one that refuses to be pigeonholed. Their latest program is called “Mambo Jambo”, and it takes Mambo from Leonard Bernstein’s musical West Side Story as the starting point for an enthusiastic gallop through the history of music from Mozart to Chopin to Sting.

The Arnold Schoenberg Choir has been the opera choir at the Theater an der Wien since 2006, but its history goes back much further than that. Founded in 1972 by Erwin Ortner, the choir reaches its 50th anniversary on 26 October. A reason to celebrate! And what better way to do so than with a major concert that shows off the ensemble’s great versatility to best advantage? The guest list includes Schütz, Distler, Bach, Haydn, Schubert, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Bruckner, Schoenberg, Eisler, Ligeti and Cerha. We offer our warmest congratulations and are looking forward to this gift!
