Talk: Kunst und Risiko
Artistic Initiatives: Ukrainian curator Lizaveta German, PhD in conversation with MQ curator Simon Mraz.
Wed 20.09., 19h l MQ Summer Stage, Main Courtyard l free admission
The MuseumsQuartier Wien hosts the Office Ukraine - Shelter for Ukrainian Artists, the leading structure for the support of artists who fled to Austria in the wake of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine.
Numerous artists from Ukraine are now enriching the Austrian art scene, be it at the art universities or in exhibitions.
For this talk, however, we are asking other questions that we think are important:
What about the art scene in Ukraine itself? Is artistic work possible in a country ravaged by a brutal warlike invasion? Under what conditions and with what convictions do Ukrainian cultural workers manage to maintain a cultural enterprise or even to create initiatives? As a curator, Lizaveta German can answer these and other questions and report on the current artistic life in her home country.
Lizaveta German, PhD, art history and theory, National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine). As an art historian and curator, Lizaveta German is, among other things, co-founder of the Naked Room Gallery Kyiv and co-curator of the Ukrainian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale. Since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, Lizaveta German has been living partly in Austria.
Moderation: Simon Mraz, Curator MQ
