Virginia Woolf's “Orlando” has inspired readers for almost a century: The story of a character who lives over several centuries, changing not only places but also gender and sex. Almost 100 years after the publication of Woolf's novel, which is now considered a key queer text, Paul B. Preciado writes a cinematic letter to Woolf and calls out to her: "Your character has come true, the world is full of Orlandos today!
With Orlando, my political biography, the academic virtuoso, trans activist and now filmmaker Paul B. Preciado creates a personal essay film, a historical analysis and a social manifesto. For his film, he invited over twenty trans and non-binary people to take on the role of “Orlando” and participate in this shared biography. Together, they interpret the novel and interweave Woolf's narrative with their own stories of transition and identity formation.

Paul B. Preciado is a Spanish queer theorist. He studied at the New School for Social Research in New York under Agnes Heller and Jacques Derrida, among others, and earned his doctorate in philosophy and theory of architecture at Princeton University in New Jersey.
He is known for his publications in the field of gender and queer theory (Countersexual Manifesto, Pornotopia. An Essay on Playboy's Architecture and Biopolitics,...), for which he was awarded the Prix Sade in France.
