As part of the exhibition ROOTS OF RESISTANCE – FICTIONS OF SURVIVAL, Stephanie Winter and her SALON HYBRID team invite you to a collective performance in which the audience becomes co-creators. The CLAY SESSION is a participatory space where figures – so-called Characters of Resistance – are formed together from clay. The clay comes from the soil of Vienna – from the depth from which we draw, both literally and symbolically.

This depth is not to be understood only geologically. It points to hidden layers: to knowledge waiting to be unearthed, to forces dormant within us. An archaeology of the future – both collective and individual.

At the center is a reconnection with the terrestrial and the conscious unlearning of patriarchal structures of power and domination. Through this, we experience a re-grounding within the earthly community – one that makes both our responsibility and our belonging tangible.

What potentials already exist – and which do we want to activate?

The Mourner, The Healer, The Defender, The Dreamer, The Trickster, The Bridge …
These Characters of Resistance embody postures, needs, and forces. They remember, mourn, protect, connect, disrupt, or imagine futures. In the CLAY SESSION, they emerge intuitively – through the hands of the participants, from within. Each figure is unique and yet part of a larger constellation.

Together, the figures are placed in relation to one another – connected like in a ritual setting. This creates a temporary space of resistance, care, and collective imagination.

What role do you want to take on?
What wants to be expressed through your hands?
