Benoît Piéron. Monstera deliciosa

In his first solo museum exhibition, French artist Benoît Piéron invites us into a waiting room, the kind we know from doctors' surgeries and hospitals. Piéron's waiting room, however, is not a place where time is "killed", but a place of transformation where the outside world intrudes in the form of enigmatic objects and images. Snow globes, a colourful cloudy sky, the play of light and shadow, a water leak and the figure of a bat transform a place of emptiness into a place of poetic fullness.  

Piéron's artistic practice is informed by his lifelong experience of illness. He is concerned with the medical and social treatment of sick bodies, with experiences of waiting and uncertainty, with care and intimacy. Piéron thus transforms his illness into an art of survival.
