With soaring sounds and thumping rhythms, Oozing Earth, the latest ensemble work by renowned Austrian composer Bernhard Gander, opens the late concert evening. In his piece, Gander grapples with primal, elemental forces and humankind’s struggle against Nature. The title alone evokes images of an agonising, bleeding planet in its death throes, rearing up one final time. For this ultimate lament, Gander combines the Ensemble Modern with two virtuoso musicians and stars of the death metal scene: extreme drummer Kevin Paradis and Attila Csihar, Mayhem singer and sometimes collaborator of the cult band Sunn O))). As this journey to the end of the night continues, the stage is handed over to avant-garde metal group Gravetemple. Together with Stephen O’Malley, composer and multi-instrumentalist Oren Ambarchi and Attila Csihar’s vocal prowess, Gravetemple will perform a doom-laden set of hard drone metal music for amplifier, electric guitar and voice. With the combination of Neue Musik and metal sounds, these unbridled musical forces are certain to trigger a visceral experience for both body and soul.
