In the kinetic installation ARTE FACTUM natural historical myths encounter a performative matter that wants to be perceived as an autonomous unit.

During the exhibition the sculpture, which was made entirely with latex, will be under constant exposure to the surrounding light. Due to its light- sensitive characteristics the material turns darker and more porous as time goes by. Eight-hundred and fifty strands that have been poured into the surface are simultaneously drawing into the sand beneath.

The installation moves in waves through programmed motors.Based on the theories and stories by the Swedish natural scientist Carl von Linné the viewer is con-fronted with a staged scenario of an amorphous being: »Non crescent, non vivet, non sentinunt (it doesn’t grow, it doesn’t live, it doesn’t feel!)!«

The visitor’s gaze turns into an apparatus: the pure act of observing already shapes the properties of a transforming entity.

Kaja Clara Joo (*1991) lives and works in Vienna and Neulengbach. Studies of Photography with Gabriele Rothemann and TransArts- Transdisciplinary Arts at the University of applied arts Vienna.
