John Cage: Song Books
Choreographic Project on Scores by John Cage

Date: Thu, Apr 12, 20:30
Venue: Semperdepot / Prospekthalle
Tickets: Regular price € 18
Austrian première

Like most compositions by John Cage, Song Books, composed and put together in 1970, are open and contain graphic as well as verbal instructions as the basis for individual and free performances. Questions of uncertainty and recombinability, transparency and consensus, notation and decision-making have heavily influenced John Cage\'s work in connection with societal as well as compositional arrangements.

In the framework of SCORES N°5: CHÁOS and Cage\'s 100th birthday this year, a performative project is dedicated to the artist and musician, which takes up the idea of the emphasis on process, which John Cage conceived also with regard to the bringing together of art and the everyday: A series of choreographic researches which were developed by various artists in the framework of the project Song Books as Playing Directions - a collaboration between the Berlin Academy of the Arts (AdK) and the Inter-University Centre for Dance, Berlin (HZT) - can be experienced together with newly commissioned works in one room. Each of the participants has chosen one or more songs in order to transpose them choreographically, alone or with others.
