Animation Weekend: under the radar

Date:
Feb 25 to Feb 26
Venue: Raum D / quartier21
Free admission

In 2012 the cooperation between the Media-Communications department at Webster University Vienna,ASIFA-Austria (Austrian branch of the Association International du Film d\'Animation) and the local production company dma-pro.com is leading to the first of a planned series of events that are targeted at creative people working with audio-visual media with an emphasis that we like to call \"animation-and-more \".

The symposium is open to the public and will be held in English language - and a little bit of German if required. The title \"under-the-radar\" relates to creators of films that are either still not established, but are seeking to enter a more successful, established and recognized status in mainstream media, or enjoy staying less prominent and exposed in a consciously chosen avant-garde and underground area of production.

On Saturday 26th the participants and interested guests are invited to join a screening of films selected from work by members of the ASIFA-Austria, from recent work by students at Webster University Vienna and from independent artists affiliated with the production company dma-pro.com.

On Sunday 25th from 11:30 on we welcome participants with coffee and snacks again at Raum-D and we will start with presentations at 12:00 noon. Our five guests will talk about individual topics that circle around the theme of the symposium, they will project examples and are open to questions and discussions.

This event is for artists, students, independent filmmakers, newcomers and everyone who enjoys working at the fringes of media design and production. Such people mainly work on short films that could be animations, experimental work, narrative shorts, documentaries, music-videos and interdisciplinary media-art. If you don\'t know where exactly your work might fit into you most likely fit exactly into what we are interested in.

Guests presenting on Sunday between 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm:

Chi-Sui Wang - Painter, Visual-artist (Taiwan)
Phil Moran - Director, producer (UK)
Michael Long - Animation-artist, magician (USA)
Daniel Ebner - Co-Founder of VIS Vienna Independent Shorts - festival (Austria)
Adnan Popovic - Animation-artist (Bosnia)
