Due to the shocking realism portrayed in \"Rocco and His Brothers\" by Luchino Visconti, starring Alain Delon in the title role, the full-length version of the film was only released in 1993. The tragic story of two brothers inspired Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten to create the dance piece \"ROCCO\". Two boxers enter the dimly lit stage. They look at each other, lurking, circling one another. Pure tension. Then the fight begins. Greco and Scholten make allusions to iconic brothers like Cain and Abel or Romulus and Remus, but also to comedians Laurel and Hardy. The boundary between pain and irony, good and bad, love and enmity seems to become permeable in the process.
