Dan Walker\'s Robot Monkeys are movable sculptures in an interactive installation consisting of construction toys and plastic objects. The remote-controlled sculptures, operated by viewers, play soccer with several balls in a scaled-down model of a stadium. The Robot Monkeys live in a culturally hybridized world made of objects discarded by the society they contend against.

The original functions of the objects are meaningless for the Robot Monkeys. The result is a world unto itself, characterized by themes that many cultures have in common: distraction, advertising, and fanaticism. The Robot Monkeys have appropriated popular cultural influences from many different sources to create an artificial mythology. They thrive on the throwaway mentality of humanity that replaces instead of repairing. Totally functional discarded objects reflect the society that threw them away.
