Martin De Ronde (Amsterdam, NL)

OneBigGame is a unique organization in the field of videogames: it's the word's first non-profit publisher of videogames and was inspired by music industry initiatives Band Aid and Live Aid. Instead of gathering a group of famous musicians, OneBigGame gathered a group of famous game designers and set about developing a number of small innovative entertainment games, to raise money fo charity.

One of the key challenges in this process, apart from time, lay in the briefing of the artists involved. What constraints were they to be given and how much freedom should OneBigGame allow for these volunteer projects, which were supposed to lead to commercially viable entertainment products.

In his talk, Martin wil outline the objectives of OneBigGame in light of these considerations, the way the organization works and give an overview of its operation. Furthermore, he will explain the creative commercial process underlying the first few games, games that could easily qualify as art as well as entertainment games.

KURZBIOGRAPHIE

Martin de Ronde started working in the games industry over 10 years ago as a PR manager and later as development manager in publishing. After this, he wanted to see what life was like on the other side of the game industry fence and founded his own development studio in 1998, which he sold to multimedia conglomerate Lost Boys a year later. Here, Martin became co-founder and managing director of Lost Boys games, the company's newly setup games division.

Lost Boys games went independent in 2001 and was renamed Guerrilla Games when sold to cross media company Media Republic in 2003. At Guerrilla Games, Martin was commercial director, witnessing the birth of PlayStation 2 hit Killzone for Sony Computer Entertainment and PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox hit Shellshock: Nam '67 for Eidos.

Just before the the studio was sold to Sony in 2005, Martin moved to former shareholder Media Republic, a cross media entertainment company, where he was involved in all kinds of gaming, online and mobile initiatives. In 2006 he departed and founded OneBigGame, where he will be responsible for for general management as well as business development.

Die Veranstaltungsreihe wird durch die Kulturabteilung der Stadt Wien und die Bundesstelle für die Positivprädikarisierung von Computer- und Konsolenspielen (BUPP) gefördert.
