Nathan Boyer

My time in Vienna at the MQ Artist-in-Residence program was very productive. I worked on two video projects – a short-video series using puppets, titled “Mystery Talk,” and a science-fiction hip-hip opera set in Vienna with the working title “Faust in Space.” I also was glad to have the opportunity to collaborate on a script with members of the “Monochrom” group, for a video in their ongoing project featuring the sock puppets Kiki and Bubu.

It was extremely useful to have time to work in the studio. It also was great to get to know the “Monochrom” group as well as Viennese and other international artists at the MQ residency program and at art openings and events around Vienna. I visited several museums in Vienna, and was grateful to have the chance to film at many locations around the city.

I also am happy to have the opportunity to return to Vienna in June to give a lecture on my work and to screen some videos-in-progress at Raum D. I am sure that my time at the MQ will continue to feed my project for years to come.
