Project Proposal
 THE KEYS OF VIENNA

The basic idea of the project "The Keys of Vienna" is simple: life is composed of a series of sequences that are not more or less important themselves but are this way defined through our view, affinity, our (in)comprehension … Therefore it appears "important" to me to focus and coordinate my desire to see everything the same way: as the elephant in the ant or garbage in gold also the Studio in Vienna and Vienna in the Studio.

A – Vienna as a Studio:

·  I intend to lay a virtual underground plan over the Vienna town map that will coincidentally determine the alighting stations of my visits in the large city "Studio". At each station I will look for answers to the question: What does here represent Vienna to me?

The question will remain the same in different surroundings every day. The principle of answering: the answer needs to be expressed in the form of a basic unit (it is either an object that can be brought to the Studio, a thought expressed in one sentence or a digital portrait of a primordial element, being, food, event etc.).

  • In exchange for the received answer, I will mark the place of the answer with a blue key & a blue rope. It will be possible to take a piece of the rope but not the key. As the days will go by, small blue equally designed keys will appear on different locations in Vienna.
  • The place of the answer will be documented before and after the answer was given.

B – Vienna in the Studio:

    ·  Digital part:
Formation of an Internet diary with Vienna "metro" stations presenting an audio-visual documentation of places with answers and information on the time and the place of the answer. Raw material will be digitally modified here and there, but in a very subtle way so that the borders of transition won't be evident but still have sense and therefore will be leading astray (the record of the actual event presented in the sepia toning technique etc.).

  • Analogue part:

Set-up of a wall, floor or ceiling map entirely made of discovered objects, expressed thoughts, printed diary portraits and hand drawings from the days of my staying in Vienna. The installation can also include a new media presentation (PC, camera, video etc.). The analogue part can be realised in the Studio or in any Vienna gallery space.

The Keys of Vienna

Statement:

Following the kind invitation of BMaA, I came to Vienna and partook in the Artist-in-Residency program at the MQW.

During this time in 26 days and nights, at 28 m2 of deep indian yellow bathroom inside of 497 m2 of very white studio walls I worked mostly on: 1 blog, 1 stick, 3 fish, 7 balls, 147 analog and 1236 digital pictures, 1748 words, 21 gifs, 12 hyperlinks, 147 e-mails, 84 sms-messages, 39 skype calls; and last but therefore not less important at all, many tiny thoughts and touches with some very beautiful people I met there and they made my days in Vienna wonderful and too short.

It gave me the opportunity to develop new work in a beautiful environment, it was a wonderful space to concentrate in. The apartment studio surrounded with MQ attracted me so much that I didn't want to go out at all any more and therefore I easily decided to do the final presentation-exhibition of my work in the quartier21 studio 513. From the forbidden to the hidden, from demonstrations to presentations, from the domestic to the galleries of MQ, The Keys of Vienna are actively engaged within a plurality of cultural contexts and critical discourses. So it was a highly productive period for me and it was wonderful to have this context to work in.

It is remarkable that an institution such as quartier21 in MQ exists and provides this program to support and empower the marginal and experimental art communities.

I am very greatful to the institution to offer me this opportunity to live and work in this environment, and I hope that the MQW Q 21 continues with this program of fostering independent artists.
