Documentation

Artist  -  Andrés Ramírez Gaviria
Artist-in-residence at MuseumsQuartier Wien / April - May 2005

In the spring of 2005 I was invited by the Graz institution Medienturm Kunstverein to partake in the artist in residence program at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. During my one month stay, I worked on a single channel video titled “-./” and advanced the development of an audio visual installation I had began earlier that year. Both of these works where shown in Austria and later abroad.

My experience as an artist in residence at MQW was exceptional. I found the studio I stayed in provided the tranquil atmosphere to comfortably work without any restraints or interruptions. The staff at MQ was extremely helpful in providing the support I needed, while still respectful of my independence. The location of the MQ complex, in the center of the city, made my trips to galleries, concerts and other events easy and affordable. Furthermore, the interaction with the three other artists in the program, as well as other individuals from the cultural scene in Vienna was fruitful and made my stay a real pleasure.

I am thankful to both the people at MQ and the director of the Medienturm Kunstverein for providing me the opportunity to work in such a pleasant environment.
