What do our lungs, fallopian tubes and tiny microorganisms in lakes and puddles have in common?

They all owe their smooth functioning to hair-thin structures: cilia. These microscopic, rhythmically oscillating hairs are true multi-talents – they cleanse the lungs, move cells and sustain life.

"Dance of the Cilia" combines cutting-edge research and contemporary dance. Together with scientists, dancers explore the mysterious movement patterns of cilia and transform this microscopic, highly dynamic microcosm into an experiential performance. The performance is accompanied by sound compositions based on the real vibration frequencies of the cilia. The result is a unique experience between art and science: a dance that makes visible what otherwise remains invisible: the pulsating life at the cellular level.
