Vienna has a special relationship with death unlike almost any other city. Numerous crypts and the Central Cemetery, which is over 150 years old, are not only popular tourist attractions, but also reflect the centuries-old fascination with human mortality. Around 1900, this fascination also found expression in art: artists such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele repeatedly dealt with death in their works and viewed it from different perspectives.
