Storm is one of the most well-known references in HipHop and street dance history worldwide. As a cosmopolitan researcher in the field of street dance development, his expertise has helped to build communities and events all across the planet. In this class he will give an overview of the history and philosophy of Locking.

Public Moves dance classes take place outdoors every day – international and local instructors share their knowledge of everything from jazz and Bollywood dance to waacking in free outdoor classes. No previous experience is necessary, and all ages and levels are welcome!

Registration begins one day before the course starts at 11:00 a.m. via the calendar or by telephone on +43.1.523 55 58-19. If a class is ‘fully booked’, there is still the possibility of securing a remaining place on site. It's worth dropping by!

Biography 

Storm is part of the European HipHop Oldschool. He started dancing in 1983 when first broadcasts about this urban culture changed his reality in Germany. In the early nineties he became a relevant figure in the scene and developed his notoriety as a choreographer, when urban dance entered into theatres worldwide. Ever since then he is travelling as a HipHop ambassador. He is creating and performing dance pieces, judging competitions, teaching the styles of Popping, Locking and Bboying and most of all he philosophies on the subjects of urban art with his peers.

From 1993 until 1995 he co-edited and co-hosted the HipHop Magazine Freestyle on the German music TV channel VIVA. From 1996 until 2000 he toured with his dance company Storm and Jazzy Project. In 2000 he published a book about the development of Bboying in Germany called From Swipe to Storm. In the year 2006 Storm choreographed the opening ceremony of the FIFA world cup.

From 2001 to 2010 his main occupation was the creation of different theatre pieces. The most notorious ones are Solo 4 two (2001), The art of urban dance (2003) and Geometronomics (2006).

Since 2013 Storm got deeply immersed in performance interpretation. Besides articles in the books Unpacking performitivity (arTEZ Press 2014), Oxford Handbook of Hip-Hop Dance (Oxford press 2022) and his own book called Think Breaking, which is coming out soon, he is the architect of the Trivium judging system, which was used at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in 2018 and was used for Breaking at the Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris.
