MQ Artist-in-Residence Io Makandal: Soil Soul

MQ Art and Ecology Artist-in-Residence Io Makandal will give a presentation of her current projects, “Soil Soul” and “Mud Matters” with an overview on her environmental and social artistic practice.

From Johannesburg South Africa, Io Makandal explores Vienna’s urban ecologies and its surrounds through its related soils, both natural and anthropogenic as a way of creating kinship between the two geographies while questioning the contextual relationships to the depleting material.

Io Makandal (b. 1987, Johannesburg) lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa.
