By creating a false panorama of the train from a single shot in Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr., an interesting and promising side effect occurred: the timeline of Buster’s running on the train could be rearranged by any means, thus offering the opportunity to compose a different story. The train can also travel without passengers.
In the production of the film Rule No. 5: Shadow your man closely, tests were initially conducted using high-quality footage of Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr. This was later replaced with a scan of a 35mm film copy from the Belgrade Film Archive. Upon comparing these two copies, it was discovered that they did not contain the exact same image. The same action had been shot with a different camera from a slightly different angle. The distance between the original cameras could resemble the distance between human eyes. This accidental 3D rendering from a century ago offers a different and augmented perspective of this famous shot.
