Lecture by Bazon Brock: "Occultism and Spirituality as Proof of Reason in Modern Art, Science and Everyday Life"
Fri 16.01., 16h
As part of the exhibition "HIDDEN MODERNITY. The Fascination of the Occult around 1900"
Leibniz taught us to reckon with the infinite, the Dadaists recognised nonsense as a form of meaning, and today the "logic of chaos" increases the gross national product. Bazon Brock shows how the seminarians Hegel, Schelling, and Hölderlin proved Kant's separation of this world and the hereafter to be untenable and, in dialectical thinking, recognised eternity as a form of time and not as the hereafter of time, irrationality as a form of rationality and not as its opposite, and the hereafter as a form of this world. Remembering these events today means understanding why Trump cannot be dismissed as a hymn writer of irrationality and a titan of arbitrariness; why it is not enough to counter political opponents with the argument that they are spouting pure nonsense and dangerous irrationality.
