KRI
CHILDREN & FAMILY, DANCE/PERFORMANCE/MUSIC
Theatre play: KRI
Tue 03. to Wed 04.03., for children and young people aged 12 to 16, in German
An abandoned bus stop. A girl who moves in there. And a village where everyone has an opinion about it.
Everyone speculates, some ask questions, some welcome her and give her a home, others make assumptions and suspect her – this "Kri" and each other. How long can this go on? How long can it go well? How will it end?
The main character, Kri, a courageous, strong, curious young person, lives a self-determined life, completely non-conformist and independent of the rules of adults. Stefan Wipplinger won this year's Retzhofer Drama Prize with his youth theatre play because he uses subtle, rhythmic and searching language to find words and answers that tell of prejudice and the desire for simple answers within a village community, of new beginnings and otherness – atmospheric and dense, with subtle humour and, with Kri at the centre, a sympathetic touch of anarchy.
