What role can art that deals with communal eating and cooking play in the communalization of public space?

In spring, the KUNSTZELLE wears a sculpture by Julia Haugeneder as a hat and is the location for the format "Hat and Soup". Artists cook a big stew and invite to eat. The conversations held while spooning soup revolve around interventions in public space, the role of art in this field, and the intertwining of social practice and artistic strategies. Everyone is invited to join in the meal. The participants can share their own experiences and positions, talk with the artists about their respective fields of work, or simply spoon and listen.

While warming up together with freshly cooked food outdoors, "Hut und Suppe" tests how the aesthetic and social demands of art in public space can be reconciled.

KUNSTZELLE is a project by Christine Baumann and Pablo Chiereghin

KUNSTZELLE goes MuseumsQuartier

The KUNSTZELLE is moving to the forecourt of the MuseumsQuartier for a year. As a former phone booth, its strength lies in publicity and communication. At its new location in front of the main entrance to the MQ, KUNSTZELLE will be showing three installations this year. The annual program is supplemented by a number of shorter interventions. The exhibitions are followed by "After Shows", short interventions from the fields of performing arts, participatory intervention, sound and visual arts. Its informal atmosphere makes the audience part of the after show. The square revives and opens up.
