Another discussion about the headscarf! No other piece of clothing triggers more Western fascination and projections of the "foreign" than the hijab. Hardly any other symbol is discussed so heatedly without taking into account the complex and diverse realities of women's lives. Yet it is the women concerned who decide what compulsion and voluntariness mean. Yet everyone seems to know better what the hijab means, except the women who want or need to wear it themselves.
