Documentary fiction
Inside the Ezeiza women's prison in Buenos Aires, a rock band rehearses and voguing battles take place in the prison courtyard; sunsets are painted on the wall here so that cigarettes can be smoked in front of them in tender contact. When 20-year-old Yoseli ends up in this place, it becomes clear that she is joining a sworn “we” that unites against the violence that not only makes a prison possible, but makes it possible in the first place.
In the form of a musical that creates space for humor, tenderness and rebellion, documentary and performance are interwoven in the prison complex. The women and trans people in REAS reconstruct what they have experienced, re-enact the past, exaggerate or rewrite it. A story of solidarity, resistance and disobedience is told, which creates unbounded futures within the confines of a prison.
Lola Arias (born 1976 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentinian writer, actress, musician and theater and film director. Lola Arias is also a co-founder of the interdisciplinary artist collective Compañía Postnuclear. She made her film debut with TEATRO DE GUERRA.
