Discourse & Dialogue: The Morality of Architecture. Critical Buildings — Critical Biographies

Sat 31.01., 09.30 – 19.30h, Architekturzentrum Wien - Podium

Debates and dialogues about the Nazi era in Germany and Austria.

Insights into the lives of individuals from architectural history often provoke resistance because they call into question their canonisation. How can a critical attitude towards somebody be reconciled with appreciation of their work? What can architectural history learn from a critical approach to research and analysis? The starting point for this interdisciplinary event is an examination of architectural biographies from the Nazi era in Germany and Austria. We discuss the methods and insights provided by research, and the relevance of this reappraisal for the present day.
