Conversation with the Sun:
Publishing, symbols and personal language

In her lecture, MQ Artist-in-Residence Zarina Saidova Mingazova (*1992, Kazakhstan/Norway) will talk about her artistic work as an illustrator and comic artist and about her role as co-founder and publisher at Træsh Forlag – a Norwegian publishing house specialising in experimental comics and zines. She will also present Træsh Archive – a temporary comic book shop she launched in Almaty, her native Kazakhstan. She will share her personal experiences of how she has found a way to deal with issues such as displacement, belonging and community building in uncertain times through her publishing work.

In her own work, the artist explores identity and the subconscious using symbols, self-designed typography and abstract drawings. Finally, Mingazova gives a sneak preview of her publication Conversation with the Sun, which was created for KABINETT comic passage. The story deals with themes such as loss, self-discovery and the attempt to regain identity and language.
