"Borda", the new piece by Lia Rodrigues, is a celebration of the imagination beyond all limits. It was created at a centre for art and education that the Brazilian choreographer has been running for over 20 years in one of the largest favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

For the 35th anniversary of Lia Rodrigues' Companhia de Danças, the Brazilian choreographer is opening up her case of fabrics with which she has travelled the theatres of the world, riveting audiences of tens of thousands with her shows. Together with nine dancers, she is now showing the epical piece "Borda", created together with the Centro de Artes da Maré, the centre for art and education that Rodrigues has been running for more than two decades in one of the largest favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The Portuguese word "borda" comes from the verb "bordar" ("to embroider") and implies an "embellishment", "decoration", "enhancement", "elaboration". "Borda" is a celebration of the imagination beyond all limits. How can we take the visions, longings and memories that we all bear within our bodies along into the future? Maybe by weaving them together like a fabric: a magnificent piece of embroidery with borders that are in movement, hovering and dancing.
