MuseumsQuartier: Astrid Peterle becomes new chief curator of the large cultural complex
The MuseumsQuartier is pleased to announce that Astrid Peterle will take over as curatorial director at the MuseumsQuartier on October 1, 2025, replacing Verena Kaspar-Eisert, who will take up her next professional position as director of the Heidi Horten Collection.
Astrid Peterle, an experienced curator and author, is very familiar with the MuseumsQuartier: she has been head of the curatorial department at the Kunsthalle Wien since June 2022. Prior to that, she was a curator at the Jewish Museum Vienna from 2010 to 2022, most recently as chief curator. Her exhibitions and contributions to contemporary art and Viennese cultural history focus on performance art, choreography, film, photography, and feminist art practice.
Bettina Leidl, Director of the MQ: "We are delighted to have Astrid Peterle, an accomplished exhibition curator, join the Kunstareal. She is perfectly suited to further developing art projects and artistic practices at the MQ. I am very much looking forward to working with her.
I would like to congratulate Verena Kaspar-Eisert on her well-deserved career move. During our more than ten years of collaboration, which began at Kunst Haus Wien in 2014, we were not only able to successfully implement great exhibition projects. Our shared passion for bringing sustainability issues closer to people through art and culture and inspiring them to see things in new ways has also greatly enriched our collaboration. I wish Verena Kaspar-Eisert every success and many wonderful years as director of the Heidi Horten Collection."
