The double projection Split Screen consists of a hat-game, running simultaneously with three nutshells, where a pea is hidden under one of the shells, and a 3-D projection with anaglyphs (red/green) shows a woman cracking nuts and a man spooning pea soup.
The installation Split Screen Probe breaks this work down into its individual components, based on the raw material of practicing a fixed pattern of moving three nuts. To enable this to recur on film, a formulistic sequence is required to always guarantee the same path for the nut with the pea. Despite all fragmentations, simplifications and slowdowns - asynchrony creeps in, causing confusion in the final cross-cutting. The algorithm yields to imprecision, with surprising results.
