Opening and Presentation of EIKON #96: Tue, Nov 08, 19:00
Venue: EIKON Schaufenster
Admission free

Founded by Claus Prokop, Roland Rust and Karl Ulbl in 2004, ORTHOCHROME collects, digitalises and archives analogue, private everyday photographs and slides, which predominantly date back to the 1950s and 1960s. ORTHOCHROME's objective is to save these documentations of one's life from oblivion. In the beginning, the archive that now consists of more than 100.000 photographs, was available to curators and artists for public exhibitions. Meanwhile, the archive is not open to the public anymore.
Today, ORTHOCHROME uses the photographs for their own projects that are sometimes realised in collaboration with invited artists. The main focus lies in identifying peculiarities of these captures, uncovering contentual levels, and in making visible aspects that would stay invisible in a superficially authentic facsimile reproduction.
