Irma Markulin and Dorottya Kalocsai: Forms of the Image – Image of the Form
• Days with event
Exhibition: Monday, Aug 29, 18:00
Concert: Emily Kolbert, 19:00
Venue: Raum D/ Q21
The two artists present their works which they established during their time as Q21 Artists-in-Residence at MuseumsQuartier Wien in August 2016. In their pieces they react to form, image and language of digital and manual communication and the self-representation that comes along with that.
Both artists dealt with portraits during their residency, and though they had two very different approaches to the topic, they both played with theme and material, highlighting the contrast between old and new.
Dorottya Kalocsai formed objects of concrete and used porcelain glazing to make the well known screen surface of smartphones visible. By recreating the contours of facebook profiles, she plays with the idea of such profiles as modern-day portraits.
Irma Markulin on the other hand focused on post stamps from the k.u.k. military post, which show portraits of the Habsburg family. She enlarged these historic images 100-fold and used them as stencils for graffiti.
The singer/songwriter Emily Kolbert will also bring her delicate sound to Raum D, starting at 19:00.
