Open Studios as part of VIENNA ART WEEK

Date: Nov 20, 5pm to 8pm
Venue: Artist Studios 501 and 513, entry Volkstheater
Free admission

The presentation of the new catalogue \"AiR 300\" gives the public a possibility to visit the artist studios and meet some of the guest artists living there. In the studios 501 and 513, Jelena Miskovic (NED/YUG), Mirko Lazovic (SRB), Michaela Müller (SUI), Daniel vom Keller (SUI) SETUP.NL (NED) as well as David Böhm and Jirí Franta (CZE) will be presenting their current projects.

The short film BLACK SNOW (2009) by Jelena Miscovic is part of the room installation GEOMETRY STRIKES BACK that was developed during her residency. In the film, the artist deals with her personal experience in the Yugoslavian war zone.

Michaela Müller is showing her latest film \"Conductivity\" (2012), an animation painted on glass. The film is part of the series \"Location Scouting: Airport\" which was developed during spring/summer in New York.

David Böhm and Jirí Franta will show examples of their conceptual performance paintings. They purposely create obstacles or develop special painting devices and attach them to various moving objects in order to let pictures emerge by accident.

Visual artist Mirko Lazovic views the audience as an integrative component of his interactive installations, always striving for a balance between the viewer and the art piece. On Open Studio Day he will talk about his latest research.

Daniel vom Keller transforms materials and their outer appearance, changing their identities and using imitation, perspective and scale as a tools to challenge the perception of the viewer.

SETUP is Utrecht\'s platform for everyone interested in combining technology and creative culture. SETUP is not a regular media lab; it does not focus on the technology itself, but it rather is concerned with social implications, cultural meaning and creative ways of putting new technologies to use.
