Tools for the Design Revolution

Date: Sep 29 to Nov 4, Wed-Fri 10am to 6pm, Sat and Sun 11am to 6pm
Opening as part of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK: Sep 28, 5.30pm
Venue: designforum Wien

The exhibition by the IDRV - Institute of Design Research Vienna shows design at a turning point.

Design plays a key role in the remoulding of society to be capable of dealing with the future, as well as in the formulation of sustainable lifestyles based on global solidarity: tools for the design revolution are sustainable design strategies that can make a socially, environmentally and ethically sustainable future reality. Learning from each other, experimental strategies and concepts in connection with scientifically based methods are in the foreground.

Three of the pilot projects conceived specially for the exhibition outline future working scenarios fordesigners and a paradigmatic shift in the way the discipline of design is regarded. Experimentation, emancipation from traditional notions of products or design is gaining in significance. Mobility, foodand housing, as areas of life, provide the scenarios for new, complex forms of environmental design. They connect with the visitors\' everyday reality, and invite them to engage critically with the subject of sustainablity and their own consumer culture.

The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of workshops and educational events for schools and those interested.

Part of the ORF Long Night of the Museums at MQ
