MEG STUART/ DAMAGED GOODS (USA/B)
VIOLET

Date:
Fri Oct 14 & Sat Oct 15, 20:30
Venue: TQW / Hall G
Austrian Premiere

Since Meg Stuart showed her first piece, Disfigure Study, in 1991 and in 1994 founded her Damaged Goods company in Brussels, she has been considered as one of the key figures of contemporary dance. After a phase of collaborative cross-breeding of several art forms, in Violet Meg Stuart is returning to movement as the primary motor that connects the abstract and personal in an alchemy of the senses. \"Art is a kind of alchemy, a combination of elements, a process of transformation,\" says the choreographer. \"Violet is probably my most abstract work.\"
Violet is a riddle, inspired by texts about shamanism, a drug trip, a hallucination. The title evokes a colour, a flower, a name. The five dancers never leave the stage; they use it as if it were a mental landscape. Violet is a steep descent into a maelstrom, a swirl of energetic patterns and kinetic sculptures full of detail, partnered live on stage by musician Brendan Dougherty on electronics and percussion.
