An invented Animal - Creation - Plagiarism - Animalie

The Afissa was invented by Maja Gehrig during a residency at quartier21. Through various experiments she studied specific characteristics and artistic skills of the animal. Thereupon the Afissa was offered an Artist-in-Residence at the Asifakeil. The Afissa agreed to the offer and will now live at the Asifakeil during September. Since it is an exclusively nocturnal animal, \"only\" its habitat, excrement and traces will be visible. The night-time life of the animal is recorded by a surveillance camera and transferred to a monitor during the day.

\r\n

This scenographic installation explores the animalistic against a civilized, cultural backdrop defined by human beings. \"Animalie\" aims at the human behind the glass with the sensation of an invented animal. On exhibition night Maja Gehrig will present background and process behind the project \"Animalie\" and deliver insight into the Suisse animation scene.
