The 28th ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival opens with a bombastic Bollywood spectacle. Thousands of visitors will be present in the MQ Haupthof when famous Bollywood choreographer Terence Lewis and his company bring a taste of the largest film industry in the world to Vienna. Bollywood is all about glitz and glamour, opulent decor, happy end stories, and real live kitsch. But it is also a symbol for the strong contrasts that characterize India as the second-most populous country in the world, where poverty and wealth, tradition and modernism, faith and pragmatism coexist side by side. Lewis, one of the hottest choreographers in the business, takes a look at these contrasts in \"jhoom\", combining contemporary Indian dance with folk dance and typical Bollywood pop choreography. After the spectacular opening, ImPulsTanz will be presenting about one hundred performances by forty internationally renowned companies for a whole month, among other things in Halle E+G in the MQ.

ImPulsTanz Festival 2011:
Jul 13 to Aug 14

A production by Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company/Mumbai, in cooperation with the MuseumsQuartier Wien and quartier21#
