In the beginning of December 2010 the European Commission presented the European Danube Strategy to define the framework for a new macro region in Europa. The advantages of a better networking and the present results of joint projects augur well for future prospects for the Danube region. Transport, commerce, economy or innovation - in each field big potential is being predicted.

The Collegium Hungaricum Vienna and many partners from the Danube area encourage the foundation of a cultural cluster in the Danube region (Danube Cultural Cluster). This cluster is meant to serve as an umbrella organisation for future and already existing cultural clusters in the Danube area, as a centre for information and service for Danube clusters. The future members of the cluster - from Baden-Württemberg to the Danube-Delta - should be ready to meet certain criteria, to build a network, that defines the Danube in various fields of creative industries (e.g. festivals, cultural tourism) as a \'lovable\' brand, and, at the same time, stands for reliability and quality. In return the members of the cluster are connected to competent, new partners, sponsors and are provided with information, which helps them become more successful than without the support of the cluster.

As part of the Viennese programme accompanying the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union the first international conference on the initiative of the Danube Cultural Cluster titled \"DANUBE +. New Dimensions, new Synergies\" will take place in Vienna in the Leopold Museum and the MuseumsQuartier on the 10th and 11th of March 2011. The conference will be opened by the Austrian Foreign Minister, Dr. Michael Spindelegger and his Hungarian counterpart, Dr. János Martonyi.
