Discursive Paintings from Albers to Zobernig from the Daimler Art Collection
Date: Mar 26 till Jun 27
Venue: MUMOK
Curator: Renate Wiehager (Daimler AG)
The works in the exhibition reflect the Daimler Collection\'s main focus on the abstract avant-gardes and reductive, conceptual movements from Bauhaus to contemporary art today. The exhibition includes about 75 artists from around twenty countries, spanning a period of about one century.
It is divided in various topics, each of which refers to the historical and current positions starting from Bauhaus, De Stijl, Hard Edge and New Color School USA, constructive and concrete art, European Zero avant-garde, Minimal art and aspects of design, to Neo Geo as well as current positions. The presentation does not intend to place emphasis on an institutionalized sequence of styles and isms but much rather on the dialogue between the individual exhibits and on a discursive interlacing of individual concepts of form and content. Art history is not to play a role in the sense of \'invention\' and \'progression\' but as a discursive combination of pictures in temporary contexts and transitional forms.
\r\nOne the most significant and renowned corporate collections in Europe, the Daimler Art Collection was established in 1977. It comprises around1800 artworks with a focus on twentieth-century abstract art.
