Stephanie Coming (CAN/AUT) - Contemporary Dance Training

Date: Sep 28 to Oct 3, Mon through Sat 10.45 am- 12.30 pm
Venue: TQW Studios

This class will follow a set structure beginning with a warm-up on the floor which gradually and organically brings the dancer into movement through space. The use of weight and momentum as well as a heightened kinesthetic awareness in terms of tension and intention are just a few of the focal points we will work on. We will approach movement phrases as choreographies which, through our use of contrast and imagination, transform and become stories unto themselves. Stylized material inspired by my work with Liquid Loft will no doubt make an appearance.

Stephanie Cumming is a Canadian performer and choreographer living in Vienna. She graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance in 2000 and has been working in Austria since 2001. She has worked with Su-Feh Lee, Johannes Randolph, Doris Stelzer and Hubert Lepka, among others. She has been working with Chris Haring since 2003 and is a founding member of Liquid Loft with whom she has collaborated on ten pieces, including Legal Errorist, Running Sushi and the award-winning Posing Project. Last year she presented her lecture performance Redneck to Cyborg: A Shared Transformation in Tanzquartier Wien and most recently performed her own solo ah.poetry in Impulstanz. She also starred in Tell, a short film from Erwin Wurm and has ongoing film projects with filmmakers such as Mara Mattuschka and Gustav Deutsch.
