Während in einem Pariser Architekturatelier auf Lehmziegel geschossen wird, züchtet ein anderes Orchideen. In Zürich lag eine Architektin mit Holzdreieck im Bett, in Hong Kong wird mit Legosteinen gedacht. Wie unterschiedlich ArchitektInnen mit ihren Werkzeugen, vom Bleistift bis zum Computer, agieren, erzählt diese Ausstellung.
Alvar Aalto / Lina Bo Bardi / Bow-Wow / Hermann Czech / Diller, Scofidio + Renfro / Edge Design Institute / Yona Friedman / Antoni Gaudí / Lux Guyer / Steven Holl Architects / Lactaon & Vassal / Rudolf Olgiati / Charlotte Perriand / R&Sie(n) / Schwalm-Theiss / Karl Schwanzer / Skidmore, Owings & Merrill SOM / The Jerde Partnership / UNStudio / Venturi Scott Brown & Associates: Diese 20 Büros wurden in über zwei Jahren beforscht. Dokumentationsfotos zeigen, wie es dort wirklich aussieht, mit Skizzen oder Modellen wird aus jedem Atelier eine Projektentstehung vorgestellt. Selbstaussagen der ArchitektInnen über Entwurfsmethoden und Inspirationsquellen erweitern die ungewöhnlichen Einblicke in die Arbeitswelt „Architektur“. ?
Zur Ausstellung erscheint der gleichnamige Katalog "Architektur beginnt im Kopf. The Making of Architecture".
