Die Amme ist ein Sprachautomat, der 1992 von dem Berliner Peter Dittmer entwickelt wurde und nun in einer in der Kunsthalle Göppingen realisierten größeren Version vorliegt. Sie ist eine interaktive Schalterinstallation, die aus einem Gehäuse und mehreren Computerplätzen besteht.

In diesem Gehäuse steht ein Glas Milch, das durch Interaktion mit dem Computer umgeworfen, wieder aufgerichtet und neu gefüllt werden kann. Das Publikum spricht also mit dem Gerät, die Amme antwortet und wirft manchmal die Milch um, dann vor allem, wenn sie in die Enge getrieben wird, Angst hat und sich wahre Rededuelle über sie ergießen.

Die Amme widerspricht gerne und kümmert sich nicht um Konventionen, sie steckt voller Überraschungen, Ausflüchte und Finten.
