Die Ausstellung will die Frau, ihr Wesen und ihr Gesicht präsentieren, ihre Sendung und Berufung aufzeigen. Dadurch wird auch die kulturpolitische Veränderung des Frauenbildes durch die Jahrhunderte aufgezeigt.

Den Ausgangspunkt stellt der reiche Fundus des Leopold Museums mit seinem Schwerpunkt auf dem ersten Drittel des 20. Jahrhunderts dar. Weitere Perioden werden durch Werke aus dem Kunsthistorischen Museum Wien, der Österreichischen Galerie Belvedere, der National Galerie London, dem Van Gogh Museum und diversen privaten Sammlungen abgedeckt.

Weiters soll die Veränderung der weiblichen Identität bis ins 21. Jahrhundert durch signifikante Beispiele belegt werden.
