Nia Palmer is an artist and curator currently based in Manchester, UK, where she is midway through finishing her MA studies in Contemporary Curation at the Manchester School of Art. Her practice centres around social engagement, often with a political/activist undercurrent. Recently, she has been focussing on community-based practice, with conversations and research being her core mediums. Presenting angles from different parts of society, learning from others and discovering where aesthetics and social practice meet is at the forefront of her research.

Project info

During her residency at MQ Wien, Palmer’s focus will be to delve into research surrounding queer art, belonging and identity by questioning the institutional response, or lack of response, to this. Using her time in Vienna to learn about the community of queer artists and curators, the outcome that she is working towards is a socially engaged art project that will collaborate with Vienna’s Queer art community.
